One of the itineraries in our Siem Reap trip is to visit the traditional Khmer village and learn the local cuisine. By simply walk through the village and have some simple interaction with the villager will expand your perspective. We look through the difference between our living lifestyle and realize it is more than sufficient for us. There are a lot things going through our mind when we can across new things. This will be one of our memorable trips.

高棉村庄的料理学习之旅 Siem Reap Village Tour and Cooking Class

嘟嘟车司机载我门来到暹粒郊区的小村庄：柬埔寨拳击的练习场，也是烹饪班的学习地点。厨娘老师的丈夫是的拳击教练，而她善用这个场地，建立了设备齐全的小厨房，搭起了高脚竹棚让人用餐，屋子周围则栽种了常用的蔬果和香料。打了招呼后，厨娘先带我们逛村落，此地应该鲜少人知，整个下午的观光客只有我们。

Our tuk tuk driver fetch us to a village at outskirt of Siem Reap: Cambodia boxing training center and also a cooking class. Our chef is thoughtful enough to set up a small but well equipped kitchen in her husband boxing training center. The house is surrounded with some vegetable and herb which planted by the chef herself. After having a brief introduction, we had been brought to have a tour around the village. Throughout our whole activity, we realize that we are the only tourist inside the village. It seems to be not so familiar to others and less popular activity when people visit Siem Reap.

散步村庄的一大收获，与当地妇人一块学习用竹草编织手工艺品。教导我们的妇人有一对透亮的蓝眼睛，嘴角一直上扬，她不会说英文，只好靠着我们的司机充当翻译。她说，几乎每家门户都以编制工艺品来维持生计，商家定期前来收购，贴上标签后以高价售卖给游客。

村子里编织的竹篮竹盒子，大大小小的竹草垫子完全是手工活，虽然说她们熟能生巧，每个编织敲打的动作看似轻松，但只有亲手尝试过了才会知道这样的生活有多不容易。我们也挑选了一些喜爱的编制品，买下精巧的手艺，还有当地人的心思与心血，希望能帮他们挣多一些的收入。

By walking through the village we came across a housewife that makes bamboo and grass woven handicraft as living. She is kind enough to let us try how to make one of the bamboo baskets. She doesn’t understand English but we still manage to communicate with her with the universal hand sign and also our tuk tuk driver as our translator. She told us that almost every house in the village make this handicraft as their income. Buyer will come and buy it from them then hike up the price and sell it to tourist. We realize there are really a huge price difference between here and tourist spot.

Everything here is handmade from scratch. Everything seems so easy when you see them doing it. It is just simply hammer the nail and here come the end product. But after the try it our self, it is nothing near to our expectation. Each of us bought a few things here which show that we appreciate what they do and also hope that we could somehow help out in their living.

乘坐牛车欣赏田园风景是很有好玩的体验。当时是旱季，稻米已经收割，一大片棕褐色的荒凉平原。这里曾经是过去古代的高棉村庄，目前还可以看到一些遗留下来不完整，斑驳的寺庙石头基台，若没仔细注意，就只是堆乱石。路途中经过乡村宅子，小孩骑车玩乐，农家妇人煮食，老少静坐门前，他们善良无邪的笑容深刻的印在我脑海，纯真微笑如阳光灿烂，交织出一种在地的美好。

Ox cart ride is so much fun. We are taking a ride around the village and look at the paddy field in the village. By strolling through the village, we came across some ancient architecture that still remain in the village. Along the ride, you can see children happily riding their bicycle or playing around with the mates. Housewife preparing lunch for her family while their husband working out there. Their pure sole and effortless smile is so memorable. Pure, clean and peace.

最后，回到户外厨房，厨娘早已准备好今日的所有食材和烹饪器具。竹棚里放着柬埔寨音乐，一群少年一边练习拳击，一边尽情跳舞唱歌。嘟嘟车司机加入我们，帮我们照相，聊天切菜，带我们到花园看香料的样子，说不来的就比手画脚。厨娘则教导如何调味和解说每一个步骤，当中还随着音乐融入传统舞蹈教学呢。

Back to the cooking center, our chef had prepared all the ingredient while we enjoying our coconut water. They play their Cambodia’s pop song and some boxing trainee having their time in training and also dance along with the song. Our tuk tuk drivers help out a lot during our cooking class. They help us in taking photo, chit chat and also preparing the ingredient. They also show us the herb that we use in the herb garden. Our chef patiently teach us step by step on preparing an authentic Khmer dishes. In between, she also teaches us how to dance too. We had so much fun here.

享用了了三道柬埔寨传统家常菜：蔬果熬煮的浓汤、蚝油炒空心菜、Amok是最具当地特色的一道料理，加入椰浆的口感有一点像咖喱。我们在外地吃着亲手制作的料理，躺在席子上消磨时间。村庄的午后很安静，当地人在柱子架了网，躺着吊床小睡。阳光的旋律和摇篮曲一样，晃着晃着一眼万年，只听见风吹过席子的声音，很轻很轻。

We had tried 3 dishes that we had cooked our self: vegetable soup, oyster sauce fried vegetable and also the famous dish in Cambodia, Amok. It is a very relaxing afternoon in the village. People are having a nap on a hanging bed and also take a break from their work. It is a lovely afternoon and an unforgettable experience.
